Spikes and Flowers

The title of this post reminds me of the time I was part of our company outing's "Miss Aloha" beauty pageant. It was all spontaneous and just for fun, not a real pageant. During the Q&A, I got the question, "If you were a flower, what would you be and why?" So I answered, "I would be a rose with all its thorns - beautiful, but able to somehow protect itself from harm. Because I believe as a woman, beauty does not only lie on the outward appearance but also from within, and I choose to be beautiful with power and strength as well."


The contest was all just for LOLs but I won and got some cash as a prize so I was happy about that and the embarrassing moments were more than worth it!

But seriously though, there has been a lot of hype about feminism lately. I was one of those oblivious to what the problem was because I have been fortunate enough to have been bestowed privileges that other women are deprived of elsewhere. I'm glad that these subjects have been brought up and people are more aware of serious issues like these so we can all join in on the fight.
Now on to the outfit. I wore this strapless, floral dress with a sweetheart neckline so this was obviously too much since I was headed to church. I didn't want to be extremely girly either so I threw on this distressed denim vest which had spikes on the collar. I think that definitely toned down the formality and flowery effect of the dress. After all, women can be feminine AND bad-ass at the same time. ;)
