Adelaide Date Idea: Bridgewater Mill and Heysen Trail Fairy Garden
Looking for something other than dinner and a movie at the mall? How about a long, lazy and luxurious lunch followed by a lovely walk into a trail dotted with little fairies? Or swap it around and start with a late afternoon walk into the nature trail and end it with a fancy dinner and some wine. Sound good to you? Read on and let me take you along on a lovely date with my husband.
THE RESTAURANT
It was our first time at The Bridgewater Mill, which is only a short drive from Adelaide, and immediately the ambiance breathes of luxury. I can already imagine myself sipping on wine with my little finger pointing out, feeling all posh. My wallet is crying already. Oh right, I also don't drink wine. Except maybe a sip or two if I'm trying to be a polite guest. But wait, Jeannie in a Bottle blog is all about affordable travel (dates included) and fashion after all. So yes, you can afford this date too! Wine optional (or a must for you, depends on who is reading.)
We went in for a late lunch and were luckily seated in a cozy spot even without a reservation (although a reservation is definitely a good idea). We ordered The Miller's Lunch ($50) shared platter and some drinks. It looks like it's too small a platter to satiate our appetites but it turns out it was quite a heavy meal that we just couldn't eat it all. Complete with sourdough, serrano jamon, aged gouda, pork terrine, chorizo, croquette, salsa, and pickles, it was more than enough for two.
After taking our sweet time with our meal (like you should), we strolled around the restaurant - with the old mill looking like an obviously beautiful spot for a wedding, and the bar area all set for a fantastic night. I can already imagine it with music. Maybe we should come back one night. It'll be more romantic.
THE NATURE WALK
Now this walk is an easy 2 km walk that is perfect for families with kids, but also perfect for people with dogs, or a couple looking for a relaxed day like us. From the restaurant, we started our walk here (photo below), turning right at the bridge.
There are stairs at the start and you will also pass through this tunnel (photo below). Other than that, the terrain is mostly flat and is an easy walk where we spotted families with prams, and even kids on bicycles.
You can spot the fairy garden along the trees. Keep your expectations low because they are tiny, nothing truly spectacular, but cute nonetheless.
We had a lovely day which was a nice break from the usual malls or dining in the city. It was also a good excuse to get out and get moving during the winter.
Would you like to take your loved one on a date like this?
Always,
Jeanne

That is not your average date spot.
ReplyDeleteI like day time dates actually. I think it feels a bit more real and honest. You see each other in proper light and can talk properly. Especially at a place like this - looks quiet enough.
